Business Area

Empire Today’s Information Technology team is responsible for managing our Network Infrastructure which allows our 70+ locations to interact as one company.  In addition to managing our Wide Area Network, our IT team also manages our office and call center Cisco telecommunications infrastructure, desktop technology, remote users (call center and sales), and all server and desktop-based application. Our IT Business Systems Team deploys and manage enterprise and leading-edge software systems that are part of Empire’s lead generation, sales, order fulfillment, warehouse and installation operations.  We leverage Cisco and Microsoft technology solutions to enable our business to be agile and react to fulfill key business objectives in a time sensitive manner, allowing us to serve our flooring and technology customers.


The Cisco Network Engineer is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of Empire’s local and wide area networks.  This individual will be working as a member of the Telecommunications team in managing and administering the organization’s Cisco-based networking and security solutions.

•          Responsible for all components of Cisco network infrastructure, protocols, & concepts:

o    Routers & Switches, including MDS

o    wireless access points & controllers

o    Security Appliances – ASA & ISE

o    HSRP, QoS, Layer 2, Layer 3, VLANs, segmentation, bandwidth modeling

•          Hardware administration & testing, isolating & replacing failing devices, network validation, remote administration, systems monitoring, and integration with other enterprise applications

•          Design, architect, & update network documentation using Visio and other tools

•          Work with service providers and third-party vendors to troubleshoot and resolve circuit/network issues

•          Experience with workstations and their associated operating systems and/or software

•          Install, configure, management, & troubleshoot local and wide area networks

•          Review, recommend and implement security requirements for all systems on the network 

•          Conduct research and maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging state-of-the-art computer/network systems technologies, architectures, services, protocols and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts

•          Improve network management processes and procedures

•          Work in a team environment by collaborating with others and sharing tools, skills, and knowledge

•          Participate in change management meetings and prepare necessary documentation for appropriate change authorizations

•          Position will require after hours on-call duties for both telecommunications circuits and network related support.


The successful candidate will possess:

•          Strong working knowledge of technologies currently used: dynamic & static routing, MQC framework, BGP, EIGRP, QoS, Spanning Tree, IPSec, VPN, ISE, RADIUS, & Cisco wireless

•          Strong problem-solving and logical analysis skills, as well as strong technical background

•          CCNA certification and 3 to 5 years of relative work experience for mid-to-large scale multi-location enterprise

•          Must have Microsoft Visio and documentation skills

•          Strong experience with Cisco ISR routers and Catalyst switches, including L2 design and L3 inter-vlan routing

•          Ability to troubleshoot circuit issues – including MPLS and DIA circuits

•          Skills necessary to troubleshoot internal and external routing protocols

•          Possess access-control list (ACL) expertise with understanding of threat mitigation

•           Hands on experience with IOS maintenance and upgrades on Cisco ASR, ISR, 2900, 3500, 3700, 4400, & 6500 series devices

•          Ability to Install/use tools including network sniffers, analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and monitoring applications

•          Ability to lift 45 pounds

•          Working knowledge of telecommunications concepts - 66 and 110 blocks, DEMARC extensions, Ethernet, & wiring

•          Desire and ability to learn combined with ability to work independently and within a team environment
