The Director, Operational Program Management, will lead the program management team, as well as own the development and coordination of all national operations programs. This work will include developing programs personally, building and managing programs for other departments, coordination of materials and training with L&D, and communication and implementation of operational IT releases. The Director role is focused on improving the operating performance of Empire Today's market operations to include the execution of the "Enhanced Playbook", the use of D365 and related systems, and the improvement of "Performance" and "Result" measures.

The Director will lead and support the Manager of Operational Program management, as they develop and implement national programs that impact market operations.

Reporting to the Vice President of Operational Execution

  • Develop and implement programs that will improve the company's operating performance at market level.
  • Establish aggressive goals for the implementation of market programs, and then deliver the programs on time
  • Complete all project management steps to include formal documentation, coordination, planning, and implementation of all assigned programs.
  • Monitor the performance of key activities in the market, with a focus on full and accurate implementation of operational processes and D365 system use.
  • Coordinate the development, review, and implementation of training materials with the Learning and Development team
  • Coordinate the schedule, communication, and training of all market facing IT releases.
  • Develop a market audit program that is structured for use by all members of the team (Executive team, Senior Leaders, and Line managers)
  • Work directly with the market teams to implement programs, including virtual and physical teaching and work-withs.
  • Develop and implement scorecards and dashboards that will facilitate improved execution and business performance in the markets.
  • Be based in Northlake, IL and be prepared to travel up to 25%.


The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Relevant fields of study are preferred, including business, operations, distribution, logistics, engineering, or the like
    • Course work in project management or process improvement, or the like

  • 7 + years of experience demonstrating progressive responsibility in roles focused on program management change management, or similar disciplines
  • Experience in supporting, or running, dispersed market-based businesses
  • Strong verbal and written and communication skills
  • Strong project management skills, especially if accompanied with experience with structured tools/software
  • Well-developed data management and analytical skills
  • Previous experience in training business systems / processes is preferred
  • Ability to work and collaborate with cross functional teams
