Responsibilities

The Director of Sales develops and implements strategy for increasing sales performance along with quality of customer interactions with Sales Representatives.  The position is responsible for driving sales programs while acting as a central resource for the organization in matters of sales, sales operations, and overall sales effectiveness.  This position reports to the Vice President.

The Director’s scope of responsibility will include:

  • Develop sales capacity growth initiatives, including setting and prioritizing recruiting targets
  • Develop and lead initiatives to improve sales representative productivity and effectiveness while reducing turnover
  • Develop and lead initiatives to improve sales management productivity and effectiveness while reducing turnover
  • Ensure effective control of national sales policy and procedures and take proactive and corrective action to guarantee the achievement of national sales objectives
  • Identify & action performance improvement opportunities via existing reporting & development of new reporting as needed
  • Assist in creation and execution of education programs
  • Create, develop, and drive execution of concise, meaningful, and digestible communications and programs that motivate success across a nationwide network of Sales Representatives
  • Perform other functions as necessary or as assigned.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sales/Marketing is required, MBA preferred
  • 10-15 years’ experience in a related sales background with focus on administration of programs
  • Ideal candidate would have had prior experience with direct responsibility for revenues in excess of $100mm in a company with overall revenues of $1billion
  • Ability to operate independently while “rolling up the sleeves” to get work done is critical
  • Prior experience with development and enforcement of sales standard operating procedures is also required.
  • Prefer some combination of experience (i) working with outside sales forces; (ii) working with indirect sales forces – contractors, distributors, manufacturer reps, franchisees, etc.; (iii) leading in a highly-distributed organization; and (iv) selling services, especially custom / consumer durable ones
  • Work in a matrixed environment and collaborate with others, consider the needs of all affected groups, and to build/leverage relationships across functions to achieve business results
  • Experience with data analysis (i.e., sales trends) and leveraging data to drive decision making
  • Strong program management skills
  • High level attention to detail
  • Able to effectively communicate with various levels of management and demonstrate a professional demeanor at all times
  • Able to be flexible in a rapidly changing work environment
  • Computer skills including MS Office
